****************************** Bingo hall, gaming facility grand opening

It is with immense excitement in which Batchewana First Nation (BFN) Chief and Council invite everyone to the new bingo hall and gaming facility grand opening this Saturday, July 23, 2011 from 1-3 p.m.

The grand opening festivities will began at 1 p.m. and include live entertainment from an Elvis performer, BBQ with beverages provided by Coca-cola, live radio remote broadcast, and lots of prize giveaways!

The new facility located on Gran Street, Rankin Reserve (behind arena), began construction in August 2010.

The building is comprised of 8,000 square feet designated for bingo and dining/canteen on the lower level, and roughly 1,600 square feet located upstairs for staff offices, storage facilities, and future gaming area with an overall capacity of 300.

BFN Chief and Council have strategically been planning this development for some time, keeping in mind the best approach to accommodate First Nation’s right to communal gaming to ensure that community members, and their interests are protected first and foremost.

Chief Dean Sayers (seen at announcement of new bingo hall) commented that: “We are very excited about the new jobs, financial stimulation, and most importantly the move from the First Nation’s financial dependency on the Ontario/ federal governments which this new facility will provide.”

It was important to Chief and Council that the BFN be solely responsible for the $2.5 million price tag attached to the new facility, to encourage the First Nation’s move to becoming financially independent as a nation.

Chief Dean Sayers ensures that “responsible gaming will find it’s home in our community,” detailing a plan for investing revenues into a formula that will develop responsible gaming strategies that best suite the community.

The new facility is the only bingo hall within city limits that is located on the city transit route.

The bingo hall will be open seven days a week with dialing bingo’s at 1-7 p.m. and 10 p.m. (prize structures will vary).
